Taylor named new Wellington Phoenix captain

Former Premier League defender Steven Taylor has been handed the Wellington Phoenix captain's armband after 11 seasons in the care of Andrew Durante.

Wellington Phoenix coach Mark Rudan has made a statement of intent by luring one-time Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor to the A-League club.

A veteran of 194 English Premier League appearances, Taylor brings a wealth of experience and professionalism to the Phoenix.

Steven Taylor started nine Major League Soccer games for Portland Timbers.

The Portland Timbers have announced the departure of former Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor.

Taylor, who left St James' Park at the end of last season, made nine starts in the MLS after signing for the Timbers in August.
