St Etienne sign Rennes' Paul-Georges Ntep to loan deal

Paul-Georges Ntep will join St Etienne on loan.

St Etienne have made their second signing of the January transfer window by bringing in France winger Paul-Georges Ntep on loan from Rennes.

The 25-year-old will represent Les Verts until the end of the current season, the mid-table Ligue 1 club announced on Wednesday.

Ntep follows former Sunderland midfielder Yann M'Vila to the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.

Last week M'Vila agreed an 18-month deal with St Etienne following his release by Russian outfit Rubin Kazan.

Paul-Georges Ntep is looking forward to life in the Bundesliga.

Paul-Georges Ntep is hoping to emulate Bundesliga stars Franck Ribery and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after completing his move from Rennes to Wolfsburg on Monday.

Ntep, 24, signed a contract with the 2009 German champions through to 2021 with the deal finalised for an undisclosed fee.

Aubameyang, Ribery and most recently Ntep's former Rennes teammate Ousmane Dembele have all made successful transitions from Ligue 1 to the Bundesliga, and Ntep hopes to follow in their footsteps.

Paul-Georges Ntep's season is over following surgery.

Rennes striker Paul-Georges Ntep has been ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on a shin problem.

The 23-year-old has made just 14 appearances during an injury-plagued campaign and the twice-capped France international now faces a race against time to be fit for Euro 2016.

"The operation took place on Tuesday and the Rennes striker will have to wait a few days before leaving the hospital," a club statement read on staderennais.com.

Ntep made headlines for his goal against Reims last season, but has emerged as one of France's finest this term.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City all sent scouts to watch Rennes' in-form attacking midfielder Paul-Georges Ntep last weekend, RMC reports.

The heavyweight Premier League trio had representatives at Rennes' league game at home to Monaco on Saturday where Ntep, 22, created both his team's goals in a 2-0 win, with Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim later saying: "Ntep won the game on his own."
