Celtic winger James Forrest signs new contract with Scottish champions

James Forrest has been impressed by new Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers.

Winger James Forrest has signed a new three-year contract with Scottish champions Celtic.

Forrest, a Scotland international, has looked rejuvenated in recent games under new manager Brendan Rodgers, and Celtic have announced that he has committed his future to the club until 2019.

The 25-year-old wide player scored the opening goal in a 2-1 win over Hearts on Sunday, and has now struck 31 times in 193 appearances since making a goalscoring debut against Motherwell in May 2010.

James Forrest is on the lookout for a new club after Celtic manager Ronny Deila revealed he had rejected a new contract.

Forrest claimed in November he wanted to stay at Parkhead and was "pretty confident" a new deal would be sorted out.

But Deila now claims the Scotland international wants to try something new and the 24-year-old looks set to move on.

Unusually, Forrest's contract runs out mid-season -- in December 2016 -- so Celtic might look to get a fee for the winger in the summer.
