Bayern Munich cool Barcelona links with Thiago Alcantara

Bayern Munich have dismissed speculation that Thiago Alcantara could return to his former club Barcelona.

Thiago, 26, signed for Bayern from Barcelona at the start of Pep Guardiola's three-year reign in 2013. The Spain international has won the Bundesliga title five times in succession, and the DFB Pokal twice, but has never progressed past the Champions League semifinals with the Bavarians.

According to reports in Spain, Thiago's father, Mazinho, had been sounded out by the La Liga leaders about...

Thiago Alcantara set for long spell on the sidelines with torn thigh muscle

MUNICH -- Thiago Alcantara faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after "partially tearing a thigh muscle" against Anderlecht, Bayern Munich announced on Thursday.

Thiago, 26, had to be replaced by James Rodriguez on the stroke of half-time in Bayern's 2-1 Champions League win over the Belgian champions after a tackle from Anderlecht's Sven Kums.

Coach Jupp Heynckes said after the game last night it looked like the Spain midfielder had picked up "a serious muscle injury" and Bayern's worst fears...

Thiago suffers 'serious muscle injury' in Bayern's win over Anderlecht

Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes paid tribute to in-form goalkeeper Sven Ulreich's performance, but bemoaned injuries to Thiago Alcantara and Arjen Robben in Wednesday's 2-1 win at Anderlecht.

Anderlecht enjoyed by far the better of the chances in a goalless first half. Ulreich, deputising for the injured Manuel Neuer in the Bayern goal, produced a series of clutch saves from Poland striker Lukasz Teodorczyk (twice) and Dennis Appiah to keep his side on level terms going into the break.

Bayern midfielder Thiago Alcantara leaves door open for Barcelona return

With Bayern now holding a four-point lead in the Bundesliga, Alejandro Moreno says the reason for their turnaround is very clear.

Former Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara has left the door open to a possible return to Camp Nou, although he says he's currently happy at Bayern Munich.

Thiago, 26, left Barca for Bayern in 2013 and despite a number of injury setbacks is closing in on 150 appearances for the German club.

Many Barcelona supporters were disappointed when he was allowed to leave for around €20 million, with the Spain international viewed as the long-term heir to Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta.

Gerard Pique won't be affected by boos from Spain fans - Thiago Alcantara

Thiago Alcantara says Spain teammate Gerard Pique is accustomed to dealing with "hostile treatment" by fans and does not believe the Barcelona defender will be affected if, as expected, he hears boos during Friday's World Cup qualifier against Albania in Alicante.

Pique, who supports the idea of Catalan independence, voted in Sunday's referendum, which was deemed illegal by the Spanish government.

A tearful Pique said last week that he was open to leaving the Spain national team because of the political...

Bayern Munich's James Rodriguez out 2-3 weeks with injury - Ancelotti

Bayern Munich received another setback before kick off of Wednesday's 2-0 loss to Napoli with the news that Thiago and James Rodriguez face spells on the sidelines through injury.

Both new signing James and Thiago were substituted following injuries in the 0-3 defeat to Liverpool on Tuesday. James suffered a thigh injury and will be unavailable "in the coming weeks", the Bundesliga champions announced on Wednesday.

Spain international Thiago sustained a stomach muscle injury and has been ruled out...
