Two face prison for throwing firecrackers at Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes

Two Metz supporters who threw firecrackers at Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes at a match in 2016, causing it to be abandoned, could be sentenced to prison.

Portugal international Lopes suffered temporary hearing loss after fans from the Horda Frenetik ultra group threw three firecrackers onto the pitch during a Ligue 1 game in December that year.

The two men, aged 25 and 36, face prison sentences of one year, with a further 10 months suspended, for what a public prosecutor described as "harmful behaviour"...

Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes has had a suspension increased from three matches to five by the French Football Federation's appeal commission for violent conduct.

Lopes and Marseille defender Adil Rami each received three-match bans in a previous ruling. Rami's suspension remains unchanged, the federation says in a statement on Monday.

In March, players from both teams clashed at the Stade Velodrome in Marseille after Memphis Depay scored in the last minute to give Lyon a 3-2 win in the French league.

Metz will no longer be docked any points for the crowd incidents that damaged the hearing of Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes.

Metz had initially been docked two points -- and were threatened with being deducted a further point for any future transgression by their fans -- after firecrackers were thrown onto the pitch during the Ligue 1 game on Dec. 3.

They exploded near Lopes, leaving the goalkeeper's hearing temporarily impaired.

The French Football Federation's Appeals Commission on Thursday will hear Metz's case against the points deduction inflicted on the Ligue 1 club for incidents that nearly left Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes deaf.

The Euro 2016 winner suffered temporary hearing loss when firecrackers thrown by Metz fans exploded near him during his club's Ligue 1 game in early December.

Anthony Lopes will be suspended for one game for modifying his shirt.

Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes has been suspended for one game for sparking a bizarre dispute with rivals St Etienne.

Lopes blocked out St Etienne's name on his shirt during a Coupe de France game last month.

The numbers on Coupe de France shirts carry the names of all the past winners of the competition but Portugal international Lopes modified the list with a marker pen before taking on Marseille.

Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes says sorry for disrespecting St Etienne

Anthony Lopes has been forced to apologise after fanning the flames of Lyon's bitter rivalry with St Etienne ahead of Sunday's derby.

In Lyon's Coupe de France defeat in Marseille on Tuesday, Lopes' shirt bore the No. 1 with the names of all the previous cup winners written into the numeral in celebration of the competition's 100th anniversary.
