David James' Kerala Blasters failed to secure a top-four finish and make the ISL playoffs this season.
David James' Kerala Blasters failed to secure a top-four finish and make the ISL playoffs this season.

Kerala Blasters have extended the contract of David James, announcing him as head coach till the 2020-21 season of the Indian Super League (ISL), over a weekend where former Manchester United forward Dimitar Berbatov's criticism of him in a social media post garnered as much attention as Kerala's inability to finish in the top four and make the ISL playoffs.

Berbatov, who made nine appearances and scored just one goal for Kerala in an injury-ridden ISL season for Kerala, posted a selfie from inside...

Iceman Berbatov melts in Kochi heat

It's not hard to spot Dimitar Berbatov in a crowd, even from afar. If his tall and lanky figure doesn't give him away, the confident demeanour and nonchalant ball control most certainly do.

It wouldn't be Berbatov any other way. He has always played football on his pace, and on his terms.

Forget about Champions League finals and title-deciding Premier League games; Berbatov is unfazed even by glitzy ISL opening ceremonies graced by Indian darlings Sachin Tendulkar, Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif and...

Life at Spurs, Man United and more -- Dimitar Berbatov talks to ESPN FC

MARBELLA, Spain -- Growing up in communist-era Bulgaria, Dimitar Berbatov's day would begin at 6 a.m. when he queued to buy bread for his family. After that, though, his focus was football and he had a reputation of his own in Blagoevgrad, a town of 70,000 people.

"My friends would play teams from the other tower blocks," he tells ESPN FC. "They would say: 'Berba is coming with his team; we need to prepare.' I was 10. We played six-a-side, which I still play. I had street cred. Like drug dealers....

ISL side Kerala Blasters sign Dimitar Berbatov on one-year contract

Dimitar Berbatov has been without a club since leaving PAOK Salonika last summer.

Indian Super League side Kerala Blasters have signed former Manchester United and Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov.

Berbatov, 36, has signed a one-year contract with the club and will link up with former United teammate Wes Brown and head coach Rene Meulensteen, who was Sir Alex Ferguson's assistant at Old Trafford between 2007 and 2013.

Kerala announced the news in a tweet which read: "Golden touch, turns like a dream & a deadly finish. The Bulgarian Hitman is set to take ISL by storm."

Dimitar Berbatov re-enacts 'The Godfather' with help of his daughter

Francis Ford Coppola's classic "The Godfather" trilogy has been a lifelong obsession for Dimitar Berbatov, who used the iconic movies to learn English as a young boy growing up in Bulgaria.

So it's perhaps not surprising that the 36-year-old striker chose to re-enact a scene from the cinematic masterpiece to help promote his upcoming charity match.

The little vignette also features an impressive supporting performance from Berbatov's 7-year-old daughter, Dea, who approaches "Don Dimitore" in search...
