Russia's Sergei Ignashevich announces retirement after World Cup exit

Russia's most-capped player, Sergei Ignashevich, has announced his retirement after the hosts were eliminated from the World Cup by Croatia.

Ignashevich, 38, who spent his club career in Russia, was a key member of his country's run to the quarterfinals, playing in each of their five matches.

He earned 127 caps, scoring nine goals, and holds the record for the most international appearances by any Russian player.

"This was my last World Cup, my last tournament and the last match of my soccer career....

Sergei Ignashevich extends deal with CSKA Moscow

Sergei Ignashevich has signed a one-year deal to stay on at CSKA Moscow.

MOSCOW -- Russia's most-capped player, Sergei Ignashevich, has signed a one-year contract extension with CSKA Moscow in a bid to continue his career through to his home World Cup in two years.

Ignashevich, who turns 37 this month, has 120 appearances for Russia and played all three matches at Euro 2016 as Russia was eliminated in the group stage.

The new deal runs through to the end of the 2016-17 season, CSKA said in a statement.
