Paris Saint-Germain right-back Dani Alves has switched from No. 32 to No. 13 in an homage to Brazil legend and two-time World Cup winner Mario Zagallo ahead of the upcoming season.
Alves, who is beginning his second season at PSG, is not expected to return until the end of December at the earliest after undergoing on his right knee in June.
"I have always liked to change numbers and honour the people who, in a way, have inspired me and made sense to my life," Alves wrote on Instagram. "This time, this is for our idol -- the unforgettable [Mario] Zagallo.
"I have always believed that any homage should be made in life. He is a person who has done a lot for our football, somebody who knows how difficult it is to succeed in what we do and somebody who encourages others. He will always be deserving of my respect and admiration."
Alves, 35, scored one Ligue 1 goal and added six assists in 25 appearances in his first season at PSG and is the most decorated active player after winning the Coupe de France, his 38th title.
