PSG fined €100,000, threatened with supporters' ban after damage at Lyon

The French Football League (LFP) has fined Paris Saint-Germain and threatened the French champions with a potential supporters' ban because of the damage caused to Parc OL during the 4-1 Coupe de la Ligue final win over Monaco earlier this month.

Seats at Olympique Lyonnais' stadium, the venue for the showpiece match, were ripped up, toilets were smashed and anti-Lyon graffiti was daubed on walls.

Suspicions over who caused the damage centred on the Paris Ultras Collective (CUP) group of hardcore PSG fans. However, the CUP hit back in a statement to Le Parisien in which it condemned the damage caused.

After further consideration by the LFP's disciplinary committee, the capital club have been hit with a €100,000 fine and the threat of partial closure of Parc des Princes for two matches.

The suspended sentence would affect the Auteuil end of the stadium, which houses the CUP and generates the atmosphere at PSG's home games.

Also included in the punishment was the prohibition of travelling fans for two matches, but that was already served in the recent wins away at Angers and Metz.

"This is a final warning before heavier measures," Le Parisien quoted disciplinary committee president Sebastien Deneux as saying. "We took into account the fact that there have been no problems since the return of the ultras last September but that PSG do not have total control over their organisation.

"The signals sent are a little discomforting. This is a decision that demands PSG take their supporters in hand, particularly this group of ultras."

In other disciplinary news, Presnel Kimpembe will miss the home Ligue 1 clash against Bastia on May 6 after accumulating three more bookings inside 10 competitive domestic matches.
