Unai Emery pleased with PSG reaction after collapse at Barcelona

Paris Saint-Germain coach Unai Emery revealed himself to be pleased with his team after their 2-1 win at Lorient in Ligue 1 on Sunday just days after an agonising UEFA Champions League exit away at Barcelona.

The French champions were beaten 6-1 by Barca on Wednesday, completing a staggering 6-5 aggregate collapse for the Ligue 1 outfit who had possessed a 4-0 lead from the first leg.

Speaking after the final whistle at Stade du Moustoir on Sunday, Emery was happy his players controlled the game and won -- even if he also admitted they are capable of better.

"The team dominated throughout the 90 minutes of the game," Emery told journalists. "We managed to lead 2-0 and even though we conceded a goal, we held on.

"We stopped our opponents creating a lot of chances. These three points are important. We dominated the game and the team played very well, even if they can do better. But I am very happy with the team's work."

Young midfielder Christopher Nkunku scored the second of PSG's goals, which was his first in Ligue 1 and the youth academy graduate told Canal+ that it will take longer to get over the Barcelona capitulation.

"The victory was the most important thing this evening," said the 19-year-old. "We really wanted to play well and to forget Wednesday even if we know that will take some time and some great performances.

"We have to look forward. The squad is disappointed, it is normal but we have to get over it. I am relieved. We wanted to start again with a win, and that is what we have done."

Edinson Cavani provided the assist for Nkunku's goal but had what he thought was his opener recorded as a Benjamin Jeannot own goal instead.

Despite that, the Uruguay international was happy with an important win in the race for another title in Le Championnat and stressed the importance of the league.

"It was an important match after what had happened this week but great teams are always ready," Cavani said to Canal+. "We worked a lot. We have to look forward, keep working, keep winning. That is the path to take.

"The most important thing is the league. It is our main objective throughout the year because it is that that gives us the opportunity to be ready in the other competitions."

Next up for PSG in Ligue 1 is a visit from Olympique Lyonnais next Sunday and then the Coupe de la Ligue final against AS Monaco in Lyon.
