PSG without Marco Verratti and Javier Pastore for Monaco clash

Paris Saint-Germain will be without midfielders Marco Verratti and Javier Pastore for the massive Ligue 1 clash with AS Monaco at Parc des Princes on Sunday.

Unai Emery's men are three points behind Les Monegasques and need a win to close the gap as they try to find their way back to the top of the table.

The French champions will be without star man Verratti and playmaker Pastore, though, after the Spanish coach ruled both out for fitness reasons.

"Marco has a small injury, he will not be ready for tomorrow," Emery told journalists at his prematch news conference ahead of the Monaco encounter. "Javier is not ready either. He is a lot better and is training with us. It is good news for the group to see his improvement. Otherwise, everyone is in shape for tomorrow's game."

The problem in question for Verratti is a calf issue, while Pastore is continuing his return to fitness after a lengthy injury lay-off.

The Italy international's absence will be a big blow, particularly after his recent return to form, but Emery feels he is well equipped to handle the Verratti's unavailability and hinted Adrien Rabiot could replace him.

"We want to maintain team spirit, regardless of who is on the pitch," said Emery. "We know that the players all have different qualities. Above all, we want to maintain the rhythm and level of our play.

"We cannot rely on the same players all the time. We know certain players will get injured during the season. We have to be able to cope with those absences; you never know what can happen. Adrien could be a solution in that position. We have solutions."

In other squad news, Julian Draxler has recovered from a nasty blow received during the 2-0 win away at FC Nantes to train and should make the squad.

New signing Goncalo Guedes has already joined his teammates in a few training sessions and could make his first appearance in the group.

Otherwise, Grzegorz Krychowiak was also back in training after a knee injury disrupted his start to 2017. All three could be part of Emery's squad to face Leonardo Jardim's Monaco.
