Pauleta backs Goncalo Guedes for success at Paris Saint-Germain

Legendary former Paris Saint-Germain striker Pauleta has praised the French champions' signing of Goncalo Guedes from Benfica.

The ex-Portugal international is seen as one of the capital club's greats and was all-time top goal scorer with 109 goals across all competitions until he was surpassed by Zlatan Ibrahimovic and -- more recently -- equalled by Edinson Cavani.

Speaking with the Ligue 1 giants' official website, Pauleta is confident Guedes will add a lot to Unai Emery's current squad and can develop enormously in the future.

"I know him very well," he said of Les Parisiens' new No. 15. "He plays for Portugal's under-21 side. I watched him grow up through his club and national team matches.

"He is a great talent -- he is physically gifted and technically extremely talented. On top of that, he is a really nice guy off the pitch.

"He can bring a lot to PSG and he has all it takes to impose himself in Paris. He will grow and continue to progress."

Guedes is naturally a wide man but has started to play a more central role this season and will be expected to take some of the pressure off the in-form Cavani in the coming weeks.

Pauleta believes that two campaigns in Benfica's first team and Champions League experience means the current Portugal international is now ready for his Parc des Princes move.

"He has been playing for the Benfica first team for two seasons now," Pauleta added. "He has also played in the Champions League, which proves he has quality.

"Now it is up to him to show his worth and to be patient. Goncalo is still young and has a huge amount of potential."

Guedes trained with his new teammates for the first time on Thursday and could be in contention to feature in the squad for Sunday's massive Ligue 1 clash at home to leaders Monaco.
