Angel Di Maria substitution a 'precaution' - PSG boss Unai Emery

Paris Saint-Germain coach Unai Emery has revealed Angel Di Maria's first-half substitution during the 2-0 Ligue 1 win over Nantes on Saturday was a "precaution" ahead of Wednesday's Champions League clash at Arsenal.

However, Emery conceded that Javier Pastore -- who also came off injured -- "will have to do some exams" to determine whether or not he can feature in North London.

Di Maria was withdrawn after 36 minutes with what looked like a thigh problem -- having already opened the scoring -- but speaking after the final whistle, Emery was confident the Argentina international "will be able to play" against Arsenal next week.

"There is a rest day tomorrow," Emery said. "He will be given time to recover but I think he will be in London for the match on Wednesday."

Emery was less certain when speaking about Pastore, who injured his knee after coming on for the final nine minutes at the Parc des Princes and won a penalty, which was converted by Jese Rodriguez, before being forced off.

Emery said: "We know he will have to do some exams with the doctor, some analysis."

As far as PSG's sluggish performance in their 2-0 win went, Emery admitted "we wanted to control the match better" but recognised Nantes "played well too and pressed us so we did not find it easy."

"For the moment, we are doing some things well but we need to improve," Emery added. "Arsenal? This evening, we were fully concentrated on Nantes. Now we will prepare to face Arsenal. We want to do a good job in London."

Emery made a few changes to his starting XI but not as many as initially expected, with one switch seeing Presnel Kimpembe come in for Marquinhos in central defence.

PSG youth academy graduate Kimpembe said: "The most important thing was to win, to get the three points and take away a bit of Nice and Monaco's advantage.

"We got the victory and we are advancing slowly but surely. That is the most important thing. We know every match is important but in quotation marks, this was also good preparation for Arsenal. We earned our win, so confidence is good ahead of Wednesday."

Kimpembe, 21, recently signed a contract extension with PSG until 2021.

Asked whether that contributed towards his performance against Nantes, the France under-21 international felt it was natural "as with any player who wants to stay with their club."

"After that, it [my display] was not necessarily for that reason," Kimpembe added. "I have continued to work hard in training and I have made progress, so it is good for me."
