PSG sign Presnel Kimpembe to contract extension until 2021

Talented Paris Saint-Germain defender Presnel Kimpembe has ended speculation over his future by signing a new contract that will tie him to the French champions until 2021.

The France under-21 international and captain, who has already been called up to Didier Deschamps' senior squad recently, had been in talks with PSG since the summer over a new deal and the deadlock was finally broken last week.

Kimpembe, 21, signed his contract on Monday and can now focus on making the most of any opportunities he gets after firmly establishing himself as Unai Emery's third-choice central defender behind skipper Thiago Silva and Marquinhos.

According to RMC Sport, Kimpembe will now earn €170,000 per month -- potentially rising to €195,000 with bonuses -- after reportedly rejecting offers of €45,000, €130,000 and €150,000 as he was originally believed to have demanded €250,000 each month.

The youth academy graduate, who hails from Beaumont-sur-Oise revealed to the Ligue 1 giants' official website that his new deal "means a lot" to him and hailed it as "a huge step forward" but "only the beginning" of his journey.

"Extending my contract with the club where I learned my trade brings me a lot of joy," Kimpembe added. "I have been here since I was really little. I need to keep working hard to achieve my objectives.

"My ambitions for this season? Win titles, play as much as possible and experience some great moments with my teammates, the club and the fans. It is thanks to the fans that we are where we are today. They do a lot for the club and for us. I want to repay that faith and the joy they bring us."

PSG's director of football Patrick Kluivert played a significant role in Kimpembe's extension and this can be considered his first notable achievement since his arrival this summer.

The legendary former Netherlands international declared the capital club "very satisfied to have extended Presnel's contract" and called the new deal "a sign of the great confidence we have in him."

"Each day, this young central defender will continue his development with us, alongside global superstars like Thiago Silva and Marquinhos," Kluivert added. "If he can make the most of playing alongside the great players in this team, he has an amazing career ahead of him."

Kimpembe signed his first professional contract on 1 July, 2015, and the Frenchman has two Ligue 1 titles, one Coupe de France, one Coupe de la Ligue and one Trophee des Champions trophies to his name -- as a squad member -- already.
