Marquinhos urges PSG to 'put things in place' to make Thiago Silva stay

Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos hopes the French champions will "put things in place" to keep captain Thiago Silva at the Parc des Princes.

Since fellow Brazilian David Luiz's summer departure, Marquinhos has become Silva's main partner in central defence, with talented young Frenchman Presnel Kimpembe now third choice behind the South American pair.

Marquinhos, 22, expressed his hope in an interview with Infosport+ that Silva, 32, remains with the French capital outfit.

He also emphasised the pair's bond and his appreciation of the PSG skipper after recent reports linked the former AC Milan man with a move away from Paris at the end of the season.

"I hope he will continue with us," Marquinhos said. "He is someone who I am very close to and I like him a lot.

"If things continue to go well with him, then I hope PSG will put the things in place to keep him."

Silva is still working his way back to full fitness after missing most of preseason with a hip injury sustained when Les Parisiens beat Real Madrid in the International Champions Cup in Columbus, Ohio, this summer.

Since returning to action, Silva has been recalled to the Brazil national team by new coach Tite after an absence of over a year following a fall-out with former boss Dunga.

Silva's current PSG contract is set to expire next summer but will renew automatically for another year if Unai Emery's men qualify automatically for the Champions League.
