PSG unveil first three signings in ambitious esports venture

Paris Saint-Germain unveiled their first three signings for their esports Team Huma on Thursday, just days after announcing their ambitious move into the digital domain.

In association with Webedia, PSG presented Bora "YellowStar" Kim, August "Agge" Rosenmeier and Lucas "DaXe" Cuillerier to journalists and a sizeable Twitch audience at Parc des Princes.

Kim, 24, is France's five-time European League of Legends champion, while Rosenmeier, 20, is Denmark's current FIFA 17 world champion and Cuillerier, 16, is a rising French star.

PSG will be entering their team in the League of Legends European Challenger Series as well as the popular FIFA franchise, for now.

Chairman and CEO Nasser Al Khelaifi said he was delighted by the French champions' latest venture and stated the Ligue 1 giants have "big plans for the next three years."

"We have decided to invest in esports and to enter our teams in two of the sector's most iconic games," Al Khelaifi told the media. "The decision forms part of the club's international development strategy and our digitisation project.

"It also represents a new way for PSG to engage with its fans and to attract new ones in key development markets. Esports is a part of our future activity and our brand. PSG must win, there is no choice."

PSG are looking to steal a march on their opponents by becoming the dominant club in the industry and the signings of Kim, Rosenmeier and Cuillerier gives the esport sector an immediate injection of quality.

Kim joins the French capital outfit as a sports coordinator, while Rosenmeier and Cuillerier are both FIFA players and will be in action at Paris Games Week (PGW) at the end of this month.

PSG's League of Legends team will be based in Berlin, where the official LoL league is held and the group is expected to ultimately include a coach, seven players and two analysts.

As PSG are newcomers, Kim will be coaching in the Challenger Series, which is the European second division for League of Legends.
