Paris Saint-Germain names Olivier Letang sporting director - report

Olivier Letang has been promoted to the position of Paris Saint-Germain's sporting director after serving as deputy since 2012, according to Le Parisien.

The Frenchman arrived at Parc des Princes just over four years ago and was assistant to then sporting director Leonardo for 10 months before the Brazilian transfer guru quit the role after being hit with a heavy 9-month suspension for pushing a referee.

Letang, 43, has since remained in place as deputy -- even though nobody was appointed above him to replace Leonardo.

However, PSG have reportedly now seen fit to promote him this week to finally fill the void left by the man who masterminded the Ligue 1 giants' early transfer strategy under Qatar Sports Investments (QSI).

This summer, Les Parisiens made former Netherlands international Patrick Kluivert their director of football and Letang's position at the capital club came in for scrutiny.

PSG appear to have backed their man and reinforced his position in Paris, while Leonardo is thought to be looking for a coaching role to enable him to return to the world of professional football.
