Paris Saint-Germain moving in the right direction in Ligue 1 - Unai Emery

Paris Saint-Germain coach Unai Emery was pleased with his side's performance in the 3-0 home win over Dijon FCO in Ligue 1 on Tuesday.

An Adam Lang own goal and an Edinson Cavani penalty put the French champions up 2-0 at half time and Lucas Moura added a second-half goal as the club returned to the top of the table for now.

Emery saw "progress" in the result "even if there are things to improve," while the Spaniard also stressed the importance of "confidence" at Parc des Princes and not letting Olivier Dall'Oglio's men score in the capital.

"We won 3-0 and, for me, it was very important that we did not concede," Emery stated in his post-match news conference. "We had chances and we attacked, so it was good. I would not have been happy to only finish without conceding.

"Against a team that defended deep, it took patience. The team did what was necessary."

Emery once again opted to start Alphonse Areola in goal and the youth academy graduate did not disappoint his boss, keeping a second consecutive clean sheet in Le Championnat.

"I never mention a first or second choice because I have confidence in both [Areola and Kevin Trapp]," Emery said. "I started with Trapp and then though it the right time to play Areola. It was to give him some confidence so that I could consider him for the next matches."

The former France Under-21 international shot stopper was pleased to get another win, but even happier to keep another clean sheet, while stopping short of taking his starting role for granted.

"Not conceding a goal was the most important thing," Areola said in the mixed zone. "Winning is always great, it gives you confidence and aids continuity. Personally, I did not have much to do but I responded when necessary. I am trying to everything I can each match.

"An indisputable starter? I do not know about that. To me, I will continue to try to be good and put in strong performances each time I get a chance. Even if we do not know who will play each weekend, I always prepare as if it is going to be me."

Areola was not the only youth academy graduate to impress on Tuesday. Midfielder Adrien Rabiot also caught the eye and won the penalty that Cavani converted to make it 2-0 after 27 minutes.

Rabiot admitted PSG were prepared for a "complicated" encounter before expressing his "satisfaction" at his personal start to the season with international recognition on his mind.

"I am playing in consecutive matches," Rabiot said. "I am trying my best to do what the coach asks and I must continue like that. France? The coach watches the games and everybody's performances, after that, he makes his decisions. Of course I think a bit about it though."
