Paris Saint-Germain winger Jese out for a month with appendicitis - reports

Paris Saint-Germain have been dealt a blow with the news that recent signing Jese Rodriguez requires an appendicitis operation, according to reports.

According to Spanish and French press, the former Spain under-21 international returned to the capital with his new teammates on Saturday morning after a Ligue 1 season-opening 1-0 win away at Bastia the night before.

Jese, 23, was reportedly complaining of pains in his abdomen and after medical examination, the cause of the discomfort was determined as appendicitis. The only option for the versatile left-winger, who only made his move to Paris on Monday, is an operation.

Once the man from the Canary Islands has been treated, he is expected to require at least three weeks of recuperation before he is ready to resume action with the capital club.

Assuming that Jese does miss at least the next three weeks, then he will be unable to make his full home debut at Parc des Princes until at least the clash with Saint-Etienne, which is currently scheduled for Sept. 10 (though the calendar has not been finalised yet).

Les Parisiens' new No. 22 will also miss the home game against FC Metz next weekend and the first big fixture of the season away at Monaco in the third round of Ligue 1 matches.

The news is a blow for coach Unai Emery and his squad as Jese's introduction against Bastia on Friday helped the French champions score the only goal of a fiery encounter through Layin Kurzawa 16 minutes from time.

The ex-Real Madrid man was vibrant after he replaced the lethargic Hatem Ben Arfa and it was the former's shot that forced Bastia goalkeeper Jean-Louis Leca to parry into the path of the onrushing Kurzawa.

Considering Lucas Moura and Ben Arfa's unconvincing performances so far this season, Jese might have stood a chance of starting against Metz at Parc des Princes this weekend. Instead, the Spaniard must now be patient for his next appearance for the capital club.

Ben Arfa has looked uncomfortable leading the attack at the tip of Emery's 4-2-3-1 formation in the absence of injured striker Edinson Cavani.

Taking into account that PSG still looked short of another recognised striker even with Jese available in Corsica, Emery must now be even more tempted to make one final move in the transfer market.

Emery's other option is to put faith in Jean-Kevin Augustin after a prolific summer at the 2016 UEFA European under-19 Championship in Germany.
