Jese: Karim Benzema and Raphael Varane recommended PSG

Jese Rodriguez says former Real Madrid teammates Karim Benzema and Raphael Varane advised him to join Paris Saint-Germain.

Jese, 23, was unveiled as PSG's fifth summer recruit on Monday after penning a five-year deal with the French champions.

PSG paid Madrid €25 million to secure the attacker's signature and he agreed to the move after consulting with Real's French players Benzema and Varane.

Jese came through the youth ranks at Real and he told L'Equipe that he had not envisaged leaving the European champions to play in Ligue 1.

"No," Jese said. "The truth is I never imagined myself playing one day in the French league.

"I know Lyon and Monaco a bit. I know there are good teams here but frankly, like I said during my press conference, the best players are here in Paris, and I'm lucky enough to be with them.

"I also spoke about this league with Karim and Raphael Varane, who told me that I would flourish at Paris Saint-Germain -- that I would have a lot of fun and score a lot of goals."

Jese had found it hard to break into the Real starting eleven over the past three seasons but he is keen to show what he can do under new PSG manager Unai Emery.

"There were several teams in La Liga who would have wanted to sign me," he said. "And it's true that the Premier League is appealing but no, I didn't hesitate, because PSG's ambition is to win the Champions League and that corresponds with what I want as well.

"It's a team that's focused on attack -- I like that a lot."
