PSG appoint Patrick Kluivert as new director of football

Former Netherlands international Patrick Kluivert has been appointed director of football at Paris Saint-Germain, the French champions have announced.

The arrival of the 40-year-old follows the appointment of Unai Emery as head coach, replacing Laurent Blanc last month.

PSG say Kluivert will "play an active role in the national and international development of the club" and "defining the club's long-term sporting strategy."

"I'm extremely honoured to join a top European club like Paris Saint-Germain to take on important responsibilities there as director of football," Kluivert said in a club statement.

"From today I intend to carry out this role with a lot of ambition and rigour.

"We're all in Paris to reach very high goals set by the club -- objectives that correspond to the expectations of the players and the supporters.

"On arriving in Paris, I'd also like to thank Ajax Amsterdam, the club that allowed me to discover top-level football and which always demonstrated their confidence in me."

In his playing career, Kluivert had spells with Ajax and Barcelona and scored 40 goals in 79 appearances for his country.

Kluivert was appointed coach of the Ajax under-19 squad in May this year but opted to leave the role once the extent of PSG's interest became clear.
