PSG's Thiago Silva: Early title win boosts Champions League hopes

Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva believes the club's early sealing of the Ligue 1 title has given them a better chance of winning the Champions League.

PSG ensured that they would be French champions for a fourth year in a row when they crushed bottom team Troyes 9-0 on Sunday.

It was the first time in 30 years that a team had scored nine goals in a Ligue 1 match and meant PSG sewed up the title with a record eight games to go.

Silva, 31, told Le Parisien: "We've finished in the best way possible.

"When you start a season, you always think of winning titles. This year we worked very hard to win the league as quickly as possible.

The first goal of this team is the Champions League, but we don't forget Ligue 1. The season is not finished. We also want to win the Coupe de la Ligue, the Coupe de France but also the Champions League -- even if it will be difficult."

The Brazilian said PSG's runaway title triumph offered coach Laurent Blanc "more choice when it comes to the time to pick his team" and added: "To prepare for the quarterfinal of the Champions League, he'll have the chance to rest a lot of players if needed. It will be easier."

Meanwhile, veteran PSG left-back Maxwell has said he could leave the champions this summer.

Maxwell, 34, has played an important role since joining from Barcelona in January 2012, helping the club win seven major trophies.

The former Ajax and Inter Milan defender told French TV show Telefoot ahead of the match against Troyes: "The time has perhaps come for me to leave.

"I'm concentrating on enjoying this end to the season and after that we'll see what happens. I haven't decided yet."
