Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani maintains that he has always tried to respect the club during his time in the French capital and is expecting his fortunes to change for the better.
Cavani, 29, got a much-needed boost last week when he came off the bench to score the winning goal in PSG's 2-1 victory over Chelsea in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie.
The Uruguay striker followed up by scoring his 12th league goal of the season in the French champions' 4-1 win over Reims last weekend.
Cavani has divided opinion since joining PSG from Napoli for €64 million in June 2013, however, and had lost his place in the starting lineup after the winter break.
PSG manager Laurent Blanc revealed that Cavani's "conduct" had been discussed with senior players in December after the player had cited injury and left early for his Christmas holidays.
Speaking on Mexican TV channel TDN, Cavani said he tries to put problems behind him when he represents the runaway Ligue 1 leaders.
"Until the final day that I wear the jersey of this club, I'll defend it as if I was a supporter of the club my whole life," Cavani said.
"The only thing I can say is that beyond the highs and lows that I've had since I've been here, all the debates there have been around me, I've always tried to respect the team, the club and the jersey from the moment I enter the pitch."
Cavani had previously spoken this season about the criticism he has faced since joining the club and his difficulty with adapting to a wide role in a 4-3-3 formation is well documented.
The ex-Palermo front man could play in his more natural position more often should Zlatan Ibrahimovic decide to leave Paris at the end of the season.
Cavani has often been linked with a move to the Premier League but he is hopeful either way that better days are ahead.
"I don't like talking about this situation too much because it's not new and everyone can see it but when I arrived at PSG, I was playing as a central striker, even if I was free to move," he said.
"I've had to adapt to a new position -- I prepared myself for it.
"What can I say? I'm trying to do what I can to play as many matches as possible because that's what I love.
"We'll see what happens. I'm going to try and finish the season in the best way possible. The time where things will change will come."
Cavani also had high praise for his teammate Marco Verratti, who this month signed his third contract extension since joining PSG from Pescara in 2012.
"I've never played with a player as good as Verratti," Cavani told TDN. "He's a young player who plays like a veteran, with disconcerting ease when he's come from the Italian second division."
