Laurent Blanc pleased as PSG set first-half points record in Ligue 1

Manager Laurent Blanc reflected on the near-perfect year after Paris Saint-Germain set a new record for points in the first half of the season with a 3-0 win at Caen.

PSG moved onto 51 points in week 19, which beat the previous mark of Lyon from 2006-07.

Angel Di Maria's 16th-minute opener, followed by a superb volley from Zlatan Ibrahimovic, set the runaway Ligue 1 leaders on course for a fifth successive win in all competitions.

Di Maria added another five minutes into the second half to complete what was in the end a routine win.

"Victory is what we came for, and in getting it, we beat the record number of points during the first stage [of the season], so this is good thing," Blanc told the club's website.

"PSG had a very good year in 2015, and we almost achieved all of our objectives.

"I hope we will keep this motivation and determination and the desire to impose our game in 2016 because our goals are very high."

Caen coach Patrice Garande refused to be too downbeat, with his side still challenging for the European places heading into 2016.

"Before the game I had already thanked the players for what they had done so far this season, I also reiterated to them that they had 30 points and we would be fourth heading into the break, which is good," Garande said on Canal+.

"However, I do not have to like the general attitude in the match, as we ended up being spectators and were too respectful of this team.

"We have to offer something more than we did, especially with the use of the ball."

Garande added: "It is great to be where we are [in the table], but we must know how it is to be there. We have to go on vacation and come back with the same mindset."
