PSG goalkeeper Kevin Trapp set to keep place despite blunders

Paris-Saint Germain manager Laurent Blanc is set to keep faith with Kevin Trapp in spite of the goalkeeper's costly errors against Bordeaux.

Trapp, 25, was beaten by a near-post header from a corner before being robbed of possession for Bordeaux's second equaliser in a 2-2 draw at the Parc des Princes last Friday.

However, Blanc suggested that the summer signing from Eintracht Frankfurt will retain his place in the PSG team for Tuesday's Champions League opener at home to Swedish side Malmo.

Blanc said he had discussed the situation with the German on Sunday morning.

"Of course he's aware that he made errors that cost us two points," the ex-France boss told a news conference. "You have to be realistic -- that's the reality.

"It could have been someone else. The problem is that when it's the goalkeeper it's very obvious and it's talked about a lot in the media -- that's normal.

"He was aware that a lot of things happened to him in one match -- practically things he's never experienced in his career.

"Now it's finished, we start again and it's maybe better for it to happen in one match rather than throughout his career, even if he is still young."

Trapp's arrival in the French capital this season resulted in Italy international Salvatore Sirigu losing his starting place. Having featured in all of PSG's games in the competition over the past three years, Sirigu, 30, has made a club record 30 starts in the Champions League.

It appears, however, that Trapp will continue to be picked ahead of Sirigu for now.

"Everyone is subject to competition," Blanc said. "So there's competition between the goalkeepers too.

"That's a fact but it's not been the case since the Bordeaux game -- it's been that way since the start of the season.

"We have three good keepers. For the moment, it's Kevin who's playing. He made an error. I genuinely think that tomorrow he'll want to restore confidence.

"I hope that if the same situation arises he'll try the same thing and that he'll succeed this time."
