Edinson Cavani: Paris Saint-Germain know my way of thinking

Edinson Cavani has told L'Equipe he has made clear his "way of thinking" to Paris Saint-Germain and that he is happy at the club.

Cavani, 28, has said on several occasions he feels he is not able to express himself fully playing for the Ligue 1 champions in a wide role in Laurent Blanc's 4-3-3 formation.

The Uruguay forward, who signed a five-year contract when he joined PSG from Napoli in 2013, has even been linked with a move away from the Parc des Princes.

However, Cavani insisted he is happy in the French capital even if he has spoken to the club about his own ambitions.

"Listen, lots of things were said last season, and I think that could have been avoided," he said. "What I can say today is that the club knows very well what my objectives are and what my way of thinking is. That's the most important thing.

"I have a contract with PSG that I have to respect. I feel very good at Paris, where I'm happy, and I have always said that. I have just spoken to the club about certain details that I don't want to talk about."

He added his ambitions and those of the club are in sync: "They're those of the club. From a personal point of view, it's to score goals, have a great season, help the team win and the club improve. I'm 100 percent devoted to the squad, my squad."

Cavani struck 30 goals in all competitions for PSG last season, two more than Zlatan Ibrahimovic, whose position in the centre of the front trio is one of the reasons his teammate has been used on the flanks.

Another is that Cavani's industry is a useful tool for Blanc, as the player himself acknowledged.

Cavani said: "I've always said it and the whole football world knows that Cavani is a centre-forward and that he has proven his worth in that position.

"Having said that, Cavani has shown other characteristics that can help the team, like winning the ball back, helping out defensively. That's an important plus point that has to be taken into account.

"So, yes, Cavani can play in a different position, that's true -- but I will always provide a better return as a centre-forward and I think I have shown that."
