Lucas Digne rallies PSG past Benfica in Toronto friendly

Lucas Digne scored in the 79th minute to give Paris Saint-Germain a 3-2 win over Benfica on Saturday night in the International Champions Cup in Toronto.

Jean-Kevin Augustin opened the scoring for PSG in the 29th minute when the 18-year-old spun off a defender and beat Julio Cesar.

But Benfica struck back and took the lead before halftime on goals from Brazilians Talisca and Jonas. Talisca powered home a rebound from distance in the 34th minute, and Jonas tapped home in the 42nd after Nico Gaitan rounded keeper Kevin Trapp.

PSG's Christophe Nkunku drew a penalty in the 64th minute that Lucas Moura converted to level the score. And PSG took the lead for the second time when Digne's shot from 10 yards beat substitute keeper Paulo Lopes.

Newcastle United needed an own goal to secure victory against Sacramento Republic on their tour of the United States. James Kiffe put through his own net in the 48th minute, while the Magpies finished the game with 10 men after Massadio Haidara saw red just after the hour mark.

Watford made the trip to Germany to take on former Bundesliga outfit Paderborn, and ran out 2-0 winners. The opener came after 11 minutes when Matej Vydra netted after a fine pass from Troy Deeney.

And the game was made safe just after the hour when Odion Ighalo scored his sixth goal of preseason, with Deeney again claiming the assist.

Borussia Monchengladbach continued their warm up for their first-ever Champions League group stage campaign with a 2-1 win over Standard Liege in Rottach-Egern. Josip Drmic put the Foals ahead after just two minutes but their Belgian opponents levelled on 15 minutes through Ricardo Faty.

But Gladbach were not to be denied the victory as Branimir Hrgota scored the winner four minutes from time.

Finally, West Brom ended their preseason tour of the U.S. with a 2-1 win over the Richmond Kickers of the lower-tier United Soccer League.

James McClean hit a brilliant long-range strike to start the scoring for West Brom, but Nate Shiffman equalised for the Kickers five minutes from the end of regulation.

West Brom were down to 10 men after James Olsson left with an injury and Tony Pulis having already used all 20 of the players he could use in the match.

Once again, it was Brown Ideye who came to the rescue for West Brom. Having scored a late winner in the Baggies previous match vs. the Charleston Battery, Ideye headed home in the 89th minute from a Stephane Sessegnon cross to give his team the win.
