Javier Pastore signs PSG deal keeping him under contract until 2019

Javier Pastore has sealed a contract extension that will keep him at Paris Saint-Germain until 2018, the club announced on Monday.

Pastore had one year left on his previous deal and hold told Spanish media last month that talks had stalled on a new deal, sparking suggestions he may leave the Parc des Princes this summer, but the 25-year-old has put speculation to rest.

"I am very happy to extend my contract," Pastore said in a club statement. "I have just enjoyed the best season of my career.

"I am very proud of this season, but I couldn't do it without my teammates, so I want to thank them and the coaching staff and all the people who work at Paris Saint-Germain, not only the eleven players who start a match, but the whole Paris Saint-Germain family."

Le Parisien reported last month that Pastore's wages would be upped from €273,000 a month to match those of teammate Blaise Matuidi, who earns €770,000 a month.

Pastore helped guide PSG to the Ligue 1 title this season as well as winning the Coupe de la Ligue and Coupe de France, becoming the first French club to win all three trophies in the same year.

Before returning to PSG, Pastore will play for Argentina in the Copa America this summer.

Pastore was PSG's first major signing after Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) took over in 2011, joining from Palermo in a then-Ligue 1 record €42 million deal.

"Extending Javier's contract is a strong sign of confidence towards this talented player, who showed his full potential this season," club president Nasser Al Khelaifi said. "He contributed greatly in the conquest of our historic quadruple.

"I haven't forgotten that Javier was one of the first international players to believe in our project when we took the reins of the club. We are confident that Javier Pastore will help us win many more trophies and we wish him the best for the Copa America.
