Gregory van der Wiel unhappy over PSG contract extension talks

Gregory van der Wiel has told Le Parisien he is "disappointed" talks have not led to a contract extension at Paris Saint-Germain, but admitted he has the safety net of offers from England.

Van der Wiel, 27, has just one year left on the deal he signed when he joined PSG from Ajax in summer 2012, and the Netherlands international's agent, Mino Raiola, has been negotiating with PSG about prolonging his stay in the French capital, so far without success.

The full-back's place in the starting XI came under threat from Serge Aurier and Marquinhos last season and he admits he is unsure if he will stay at the club.

"We've been talking about an extension for 10 months now. Of course I'm disappointed. I would like to extend my contract and know for certain where my future lies," he said. "But, for the last two months, I have only been thinking of that, my situation. It's in my head and I'm not settled.

"I want to stay, but it's not only up to me. I'm happy here, the team is fantastic, everyone wants to come to play here. So I still don't know what the future holds for me."

L'Equipe reported on Monday that Van der Wiel could be used as a makeweight in a deal to bring Angel Di Maria to PSG from Manchester United, while Dani Alves is hotly tipped to move to the Parc des Princes this summer when he leaves Barcelona, significantly adding to the competition for places.

"I have, of course, asked the club and they told me, 'No, no, we don't want to recruit a right-back.' But you know what football is like, and they are perhaps going to buy one anyway," Van der Wiel added. "This whole thing has been hard for me. I was not settled in my head. I read things, I said to myself, 'Perhaps they don't want me any more'. I could not play freely.

"[But] I'm not worried. I have received offers from England, top clubs playing in the Champions League. But I want to stay here, I'm at home. I love this club. I want to continue growing with this team. That's my wish."
