PSG to keep Laurent Blanc and hope Zlatan Ibrahimovic stays

Laurent Blanc will remain as Paris Saint-Germain coach next season, the club's president has confirmed, while he is also hoping to hold on to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Blanc, 49, signed a contract extension through to 2016 after steering PSG to the Ligue 1 title with a record points tally last season.

The former Bordeaux and France boss has already defended the Coupe de la Ligue this term, beating Bastia 4-0 in the final earlier this month, and has his team on course for an unprecedented domestic treble having reached the Coupe de France final and needing just a point in Tuesday's rearranged fixture with strugglers Metz to go top of the table with four matches remaining.

PSG also made the quarterfinals of the Champions League before being knocked out by Barcelona.

Despite his success in the dug-out at the Parc des Princes, which has exceeded that of predecessor Carlo Ancelotti, French media have speculated Blanc could leave the club this summer.

However, Blanc's boss, Nasser Al Khelaifi, told Le Parisien that criticism of his coach earlier this season had been unjustified, and that the ex-Manchester United defender would still be in charge come the 2015-16 campaign.

"Yes, of course. I was very disappointed by the treatment of Laurent," he said. "He was a World Cup winner in 1998. As a coach, he had a great season with Bordeaux, got good results with the national team and has done excellent work.

"He's respected, young, and he's French. The criticism was unfair. We can win four domestic titles [PSG also won the Trophe des Champions] this season, that would be historic. He can write history, just like in 1998."

Asked whether he thought Blanc could leave of his own accord, Al Khelaifi simply replied, "No".

Ibrahimovic, 33, will also see his PSG deal expire in 2016, having added just a year to the original three-season deal he penned upon his arrival from AC Milan in 2012.

Al Khelaifi sees the Swede's future at the Parc des Princes beyond the end of next season.

"There's no question: he'll stay with us next season, that's certain. Just like Pastore, who was the first to believe in the project," the Qatari added. "I don't know what Zlatan wants to do after 2016. We'll talk. I would like to keep him at the club in a role yet to be defined. We want to keep our star."
