Man Utd target Marquinhos wants to stay at PSG for 'a long time'

Manchester United target Marquinhos has told RMC he hopes "to stay in Paris a long time" after coming good on his potential at Paris Saint-Germain.

Marquinhos, 20, arrived at the Parc des Princes in a €31.4 million move from Roma, where he had spent just a single season, with the sizeable transfer fee a measure of his promise.

Since, the defender has not only established himself as part of Laurent Blanc's squad, but also forced his way into the Brazil national side after a number of commanding displays.

Though reportedly courted by United, Marquinhos extended his PSG contract through to 2019 late last month, and sees his future in the French capital.

"The project is magnificent, and I'm really very happy to be part of it," said the Sao Paulo born defender. "The club is very ambitious. I hope to stay in Paris a long time to experience a lot of great things."

When Alex left PSG last summer, Marquinhos was promoted to first-choice back-up to Thiago Silva and David Luiz, but has also been used successfully at right-back.

Luiz was a surprise inclusion in PSG's squad to face Barcelona in Wednesday's Champions League quarterfinal first leg, despite reportedly being sidelined for a month after sustaining a thigh injury in his team's league win over Marseille 10 days ago.

However, Marquinhos remains favourite to partner Thiago Silva at kick-off, even if he is happy to play wherever he is required.

"Competition for places exists in every club in the world. I prefer to play in the middle, as a centre-back. But I am available if I'm needed, on the right or in midfield," said Marquinhos, who has featured in 19 of PSG's 31 league games so far.

"The season is very long with a lot of matches and the coach needs everyone. Since I arrived in Paris, I have had the ambition of improving in every game and training session."
