Leonardo uneasy about Paris Saint-Germain comeback

Leonardo has told RMC it will be "difficult to return to Paris Saint-Germain" as he ponders his future in football.

Leonardo, 45, helped bring a number of high-profile names to PSG, including Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva and Edinson Cavani, during his two-year posting as the club's sporting director between 2011 and 2013.

He left the job shortly after the signing of Cavani as a result of a lengthy suspension imposed on him by the French Football League after he was accused of barging into a referee.

The ban was rescinded last year, but though PSG remain without a sporting director, Leonardo insisted he is unlikely to fill the role.

He said: "It's going to be difficult to come back to Paris Saint-Germain. Today, there's no specific project. It's normal that nothing is happening now. Everything happens at the end of the season. I'm not in a hurry.

"It was important for me to stop for a number of reasons, even in family terms. I don't have a project. I have decided nothing. I have nothing, nothing, nothing at all. My life is with my family, nice and calm."

Before his suspension, which was eventually extended to a year before being annulled, Leonardo had been widely expected to become PSG coach following Carlo Ancelotti's decision to move to Real Madrid.

Instead, with the Brazilian prevented from fulfilling normal matchday duties by his ban, he engineered the appointment of Laurent Blanc.

Since, the former Manchester United defender has led PSG to the Ligue 1 title with a record points tally and won the Coupe de la Ligue, as well as guiding the team to the summit of the French top flight this season and taking them beyond Chelsea and into the Champions League quarterfinals.

Despite his success, Blanc's position remains the subject of almost constant speculation. Leonardo ruled out suggestions he could succeed the man he helped put in charge at the Parc des Princes.

He said: "Today, it's not up to me to decide. PSG are the only team involved in four competitions, and that's not easy! Laurent Blanc's work is extraordinary. This year, there have been some difficult moments.

"The demands at PSG are enormous. Personally, I don't see any reason to think of such a thing. Now, PSG has to focus on the moment, and this moment is extraordinary. They have the opportunity to do something historic. So, why think of that? I can't think of something that doesn't exist."
