Paris Saint-Germain defender Maxwell has signed a one-year contract extension to keep him at the club until the summer of 2016.

Maxwell, 33, was set to be out of contract with the Ligue 1 champions at the end of the season, though his agent Mino Raiola declared earlier this month that a deal had been agreed with the club.

The left-back has now signed an extension to stay at the Parc des Princes for another year, telling the club's official website: "I am very proud of the confidence placed in me by the president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and the whole club. I will continue to give everything to help the club try and reach its objectives."

Club president Al-Khelaifi said: "Maxwell is an exceptional player who has brought so much to this club since he joined us.

"We are delighted that he has signed on for an extra year with Paris Saint-Germain, which is perfectly normal, given his investment on and off the pitch and the quality of his performances."

The Brazil international has played 128 matches for PSG since signing from Barcelona in 2012, including 19 Ligue 1 appearances this term as the club sit two points behind league leaders Lyon.

The defender has won both the Ligue 1 title and the French Super Cup twice, in 2013 and 2014, as well as last season's Coupe de la Ligue.

The former Ajax, Inter Milan and Barca defender lifted the Champions League with the Camp Nou club in 2011, and could do so again this year with PSG through to the quarterfinals.

Maxwell's agent Raiola also represents PSG talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who the defender has played alongside at three clubs since the pair met at Ajax.
