Thiago Motta to miss PSG-Chelsea tie through injury - agent

Thiago Motta's agent has suggested the Italy international will miss Paris Saint-Germain's home Champions League clash with Chelsea on Tuesday in a further setback to the French title-holders.

PSG coach Laurent Blanc is already expected to be without Yohan Cabaye, Serge Aurier and Lucas after the trio were injured in Saturday's league draw with Caen.

Motta, 32, missed the costly 2-2 draw at the Parc des Princes with a calf injury, but was initially named in the PSG squad to face Chelsea in the first leg of their last-16 tie.

However, Motta ended PSG's prematch training session alongside a PSG physio rather than his teammates, and his representative, Alessandro Canovi, posted a tweet that suggested the former Inter Milan and Barcelona man will not play this week.

"Thiago tried by all means possible to be available tomorrow. But it's impossible to play injured," Canovi's tweet read.

Motta's absence -- he sustained the injury in the recent draw with Lyon -- has not been confirmed by PSG.

Promising teenager Adrien Rabiot would be the most likely replacement for Motta, though Blanc could opt to move former Chelsea man David Luiz out of central defence and into a holding role in midfield.

That would, however, depend on the fitness of Marquinhos, who was forced off just 15 minutes into the Caen game. The Brazil international centre-back, 20, was able to train with the rest of the squad on Monday, as was France international Blaise Matuidi, who was also carrying a knock.
