Laurent Blanc: PSG lack composure and character to see out wins

Laurent Blanc has admitted Paris Saint-Germain are panicking in the closing stages of games after dropping yet more points in Ligue 1.

Blanc, 48, saw Anthony Martial level two minutes into added time to earn Monaco a 1-1 draw at the Parc des Princes on Sunday evening and condemn PSG to a fourth draw in five league outings, leaving the unbeaten champions in third place, seven points behind league leaders Marseille.

The scenario was similar to that PSG suffered in their previous home game against Lyon when the visitors equalised six minutes from time. Blanc acknowledged to media that his team, shorn of the injured Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva, keep losing their cool as the final whistle nears.

"I think the explanation is that our team is so afraid of conceding that, in the end, they concede," said Blanc, whose side have thrown away eight points from winning positions already this season.

"We don't do what we have to do to hold onto our lead. In the last three minutes, instead of being more vigilant and more professional in terms of keeping the ball -- and we know how to do that very well -- we see a team that panics a little bit."

"It's frustrating to drop as many points as those we're dropping right now. In a league when you get three points for a win, it's better to lose matches and win some rather than draw. We're doing the opposite: yes, we're unbeaten, but we only draw...a lot of draws.

"We're dropping a lot of points. Marseille is running away with it, because they're winning and deserve to be there."

PSG's colourless display against Monaco was in stark contrast to their thrilling performance in their Champions League victory over Barcelona in midweek.

"Yes, but if there weren't those extra two minutes, you would have said that Paris were back," midfielder Blaise Matuidi argued.

"Overall, it was a difficult match. We had done the hardest bit, but weren't able to hold our lead, that's what people will remember."

"It's a bad habit, and it has to stop. We thought about it too much this evening, that's certain, and that's why we conceded that goal. When you're invaded by a certain fear, you pay for it, and that's what happened.

"We lacked personality, character, at the end in particular. We have to re-find it quickly, because we're dropping points."
