PSG launch Dubai football academy

Verratti rubbishes talk of Madrid move

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti insists he will not be following Carlo Ancelotti to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu should the Italian be named as the next Real Madrid coach.

Verratti has been heavily linked with a move to Madrid in recent months, with Spanish media suggesting that Ancelotti is very keen to bring the Italy international with him if he leaves PSG to replace Jose Mourinho as Los Blancos boss.

The 20-year-old’s agent, Donato Di Campli, said earlier on Friday that he was happy to see his client linked with the Liga club ahead of talks with PSG’s owners set for next week.

"I have read many stories in the papers,” Di Campli said. “I am very happy that he is sought after by great clubs like Real Madrid."

Verratti, however, says he has no intention of moving to Madrid at the moment and very much sees his future at the Parc des Princes.

“I saw that Ancelotti was perhaps going to Real. If this is the case, I'm happy for him because this is a very big club,'' Verratti told Rai. “But my future is not tied to that of the coach. I am very happy in Paris and I want to stay at PSG.''

The midfielder, who is currently starring for Italy’s Under-21s at the European Championship in Israel, signed for PSG from Pescara last summer in a reported €12 million deal.

He then made 27 appearances for the Ligue 1 side during the 2012-13 season, scoring four goals, while also being given plenty of responsibility by former Italy international midfielder Ancelotti.

Di Campli believes that such performances by the youngster have given him a lot of leverage to negotiate when he meets with PSG’s Qatari owners in the coming days.

"Next week I will meet with PSG to talk about his future,” he said. “We also want to discuss changing his contract, he is worth more now than when he arrived last summer.”
