Lugano and Nene set to leave PSG

Diego Lugano is set to end "the hardest year of his career" by quitting Paris Saint-Germain, with Nene set to follow the Uruguayan out of the Parc des Princes.

Nene and Diego Lugano are set to move on in January
Nene and Diego Lugano expect to move on

Signed from Fenerbahce in summer 2011, Lugano, 32, had been expected to be a mainstay of PSG's new-look, star-studded side.

However, infrequent appearances under Antoine Kombouare were followed by even less time on the pitch with Carlo Ancelotti at the helm last season. Unused by the Italian this campaign, and left off the club's Champions League squad list, Lugano has, reluctantly, decided to end his stay in the French capital.

"The truth is that this year has been the hardest of my career," Lugano, who has made just 12 Ligue 1 appearances, told newspaper El Pais in his native country. "France is finished. I've still got a year-and-a-half on my PSG contract, but we've decided the best thing is to find a way out.

“In the next 15 days at most I should have my new destination. The sporting circumstances mean I have to leave Paris. It's not what I wanted, nor was it planned, but the situation leaves me no option."

Lugano looks likely to be joined by Nene in leaving the Parc des Princes in January. The Brazilian, 31, has made no secret of his desire to end his first-team exile six months before the end of his contract, and has announced the club are willing to allow him to leave.

"I've talked to [PSG sporting director] Leonardo and he is willing to let me go, but until we reach an agreement, I have to go to training," the midfielder, who has been linked to Turkish club Besiktas and a host of sides in his native country, told Brazilian newspaper Terra.

“I hope to find a solution next week. If I go to a Brazilian team, PSG will let me go without a problem. I've had offers from Brazil, notably from clubs in Sao Paulo."
