Lawsuit threatens CONMEBOL presence in Paraguay - president

The South American Football Confederation could be forced to leave Paraguay because of a $10 million lawsuit on the land where its headquarters are located, CONMEBOL president Alejandro Dominguez has told Reuters.

The suit pertains to the title deed for the land in Luque, just outside the capital Asuncion.

"We asked for more information to see if our deed is or isn't legitimate and the answer I got was that it is totally legitimate," the Paraguayan said.

"But unfortunately this is something that threatens CONMEBOL's presence in Paraguay."

There are nine other lawsuits filed against CONMEBOL, many from former employees, the 44-year-old said.

Hard-hit by the FIFA corruption scandal, CONMEBOL has seen Dominguez's three predecessors and officials from all 10 member nations among those indicted.

A U.S. investigation into more than $200 million in bribes for FIFA marketing and broadcast rights to tournaments and matches has led to more than 40 individuals and entities being charged.

Dominguez, who was elected in January, is tasked with restoring CONMEBOL's credibility.
