Palmeiras chief denies Gabriel Jesus negotiations: 'There isn't any offer'

Palmeiras director of football Alexandre Mattos has insisted there are no ongoing negotiations for star attacker Gabriel Jesus, despite reported interest from the likes of Barcelona and Manchester City for the 20-year-old Brazilian's services.

Gabriel played a starring role in Palmeiras' 3-1 defeat of Santa Cruz on Saturday and has quickly become one of the hottest young properties in the country after assuming the No. 10 shirt and helping Brazil to a berth in the Under-20 World Cup final as an 18-year-old last year.

The former Palmeiras youth-teamer also played a key role in the senior side's Copa do Brasil triumph last season and has boss Cuca's men fighting at the top of the Brazilian table this term.

For his feats, Gabriel is expected to feature alongside Neymar at the upcoming Olympic tournament in Rio de Janeiro, after which many have speculated the promising youngster will be sold to one of Europe's top clubs.

Speaking to reporters following Palmeiras' defeat of Santa Cruz, Mattos said the plan is to keep everyone on the team, including Gabriel.

"He [Gabriel] had already told us he doesn't want to leave. Outside of this, everyone knows the full story," Mattos said. "The idea is to keep everyone. We never know tomorrow, if an exit or arrival is possible."

Mattos insisted no club has made direct contact, despite the rumours circulating.

"There isn't any offer, any direct conversations. If you want to take into consideration the links for Gabriel and other players, there is a whole lot of people saying this or that. Palmeiras doesn't have any ongoing negotiations, for players coming or going."
