Davide Ballardini replaces sacked Palermo manager Giuseppe Iachini

Palermo have sacked their coach Giuseppe Iachini and replaced him with Davide Ballardini, despite a 1-0 win over Chievo at the weekend.

Iachini's term lasted 772 days at the Sicilian club, whose chairman Maurizio Zamparini has now fired his club's coach 28 times.

"There was no longer any feeling with him," Zamparini said, reports mediagol.it.

"As you will have realised, there has not been any dialogue with him for ages now. I took this decision because I want to take advantage of the fortnight with internationals and give the new coach time to work serenely to resolve the problems this team has got."

Sunday's win over Chievo -- only the second in 10 matches -- lifted the Rosaneri to 12th in Serie A, three points clear of the relegation zone. It was not enough to save Iachini's job, however.

"Palermo announces that it has relieved Giuseppe Iachini from his role as coach of the first team," read a statement on the club's official website.

"Warm thanks from the president and the club go to the coach for the work he has done and the accomplishments obtained in the past two seasons, with good wishes for the continuation of his career.

"At the same time, the club announces that Davide Ballardini has been given control of the first team. The coach, born in Ravenna, who has coached Lazio, Genoa and Bologna after Palermo in recent years, has signed until June 2016."

Ballardini's first game comes against one of his ex-clubs, Lazio, after the international break.

The news of Iachini's dismissal has come as a surprise to the club's forward Franco Vazquez.

"I'm really sorry about the news I have woken up to, but this is football for you -- full of huge injustices," he said, reports mediagol. "I can only thank Iachini and his staff for all they did for me and for Palermo."
