Orlando Pirates have confirmed the signing of midfielder Thamsanqa Sangweni on a three-year deal from Chippa United.

Sangweni becomes the second player from his family to play for the Buccaneers after his elder brother, Siyabonga, spent five years at the club, from 2011 to 2016.

Speaking to the official Pirates website after completing the move, Sangweni was grateful for the opportunity to play for the Bucs, before thanking his former employers for the chances they afforded him during his two-year stay at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

"I am very happy to have joined the club. I look forward to making a positive contribution to the team and help the team to bounce back to where we all know it belongs," Sangweni said.

"I would like to thank the Chairman, the staff and the supporters of Chippa United for all they have done for me, I will be forever grateful."

The elder Sangweni brother helped the Bucs win the treble in his first season at the club, but his career was cut short when a serious knee injury forced him into retirement last year.
