Clarence Seedorf has talks over Oldham manager's post - sources

Clarence Seedorf has had spells in charge at AC Milan and Chinese side Shenzhen FC.

Former Netherlands international Clarence Seedorf is one of a number of candidates being considered for the vacant manager's job at League One Oldham Athletic, sources have told ESPN FC.

Seedorf, 41, has expressed an interest in replacing John Sheridan at Boundary Park and has met Oldham chairman Simon Corney.

Sheridan was sacked on Monday following a 5-1 defeat to Rotherham United.

Former Manchester United academy graduate Richie Wellens took charge against Peterborough on Tuesday, leading Oldham to a 3-2 win that took them off the bottom of the League One table.

Seedorf is the only player to have won the Champions League with three different clubs, lifting the trophy with Ajax in 1995, Real Madrid in 1998 and AC Milan in 2003 and 2007.

He has had spells in charge of Milan and Chinese side Shenzhen FC, who he left in December 2016.

Speaking in May, Seedorf said he would welcome the opportunity to manage in England.

He said: "I think it's one of the best places to be as a coach, so absolutely I would consider any opportunity in the UK.

"I would be open to the Premier League, the Championship -- the level of both competitions is very high.

"Look at Jaap Stam, my good friend who has done a great job with Reading."
