Pepe Mel's Baggies side secured a priceless win at Carrow Road through an early Morgan Amalfitano goal on Saturday to leave Norwich in 17th place in the table, just five points clear of the drop zone.
With a difficult run-in featuring games against Fulham, Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal, the club have decided to part company with 55-year-old Hughton, replacing him with under-18s coach Neil Adams.
A club statement read: "The Norwich City Board has taken the decision to give the Club the maximum chance to secure the points required between now and the end of the season to ensure retention of our Barclays Premier League status."

Adams, 48, won a league title as a player with Everton in 1987, and made 206 appearances in all competitions as a wide player for the Canaries between 1993 and 1999.
Adams was delighted to be appointed as manager, stating: "To say that I am delighted to have been offered the opportunity of managing Norwich City Football Club would be a massive understatement.
"These final five games will be a huge test for us, and everyone must step up to the mark. But with the full backing of these magnificent Norwich supporters we will have every chance of achieving our objective."
Norwich chief executive David McNally said of Adams: "Neil is a progressive and successful coach who has served this club as a player and a member of our coaching staff in exemplary fashion over two decades.
"With our fantastic fans getting behind Neil and the team in the games ahead we will greatly improve our chances of a successful end to the current campaign."
Hughton -- who has also managed Newcastle and Birmingham -- took charge of Norwich in the summer of 2012, guiding the club to an 11th-placed finish in his first season in charge.
But with just 32 points from 33 games in the current campaign, the defeat at Carrow Road on Saturday sealed his fate.
