Chivas' all-time leading scorer Omar Bravo signs for Carolina RailHawks

The Carolina RailHawks of NASL announced the signing of Chivas Guadalajara's all-time leading scorer Omar Bravo on Wednesday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Bravo, 36, scored 132 goals for Liga MX side Chivas over a career that spanned 15 years and included stints at Deportivo La Coruna and Sporting Kansas City, among others. Most recently he was on the scoresheet in a 2-0 SuperCopa MX win against Veracruz that earned his former team a spot in the Copa Libertadores next season.

His new team are enjoying an excellent week as well. Beyond signing Mexico international Bravo, the RailHawks drew with Premier League club West Ham 2-2 on Tuesday, with Bravo making a cameo in the friendly with 10 minutes to play.

A story on the team's website welcomed Bravo to the club and said they expect he could make his debut as soon Friday, July 22, when Carolina hosts Miami FC at its WakeMed Soccer Park home.

RailHawks president and general manager Curt Johnson said: "We are thrilled to welcome Omar Bravo to our RailHawks family and look forward to seeing him on the field. This is a testament to our continued commitment to winning and providing the best brand of soccer for our fans throughout North Carolina."

At Wednesday's press conference introducing the team's latest acquisition, Bravo said: "I am ecstatic to begin another challenge in my career. I am grateful for Colin [Clarke] for having confidence in me. I am coming to a league with a lot of tradition in the United States and it's an honor for me to be a part of a league that has a rich tradition and had players such as Pele, [Franz] Beckenbauer and Raul."
