Aiteo Cup Preview: Plateau United, Sunshine Stars out to avenge quarter-final defeats

The Aiteo Cup quarter-finals second legs take place on Saturday across three centres, and while holders FC Ifeanyi Ubah have one foot in the semis, reigning champions Plateau United must overturn a first-leg deficit.

Just over a week after winning the NPFL title, United were brought back to earth in Lokoja on Wednesday when they lost the North Central Derby against Niger Tornadoes 2-0.

International commitments and suspensions have denied Kennedy Boboye several key players, but having masterminded the Jos-based club's maiden league triumph, he'll be hoping to capitalise on Tornadoes' underwhelming away form at the Rwang Pam Stadium.

Sunshine Stars are another domestic heavyweight who have to overturn a first-leg deficit, although they'll still be asking themselves how they managed to lose to 10-men Osun United in Oshogbo.

Tosin Omoyele's winner was the different in the first leg, but Unite are without suspended Emmanuel Osigwe, and Duke Udi's Stars ought to be considered favourites to progress on the day if they start strongly.

In Ilorin, it will take a mammoth effort from ABS FC to deny FC Ifeanyi Ubah a spot in the semi final after they ran out 3-0 winners in Nnewi in the first leg.

The defending champions were dominant on the day, and recently relegated ABS are unlikely to enjoy further cup progress as they look to salvage a disappointing season.

Instead, expect Ifeanyi Ubah frontman Godwin Obaje to heap further woe on the home side, but could Adeshina Gata inspire ABS to an unlikely comeback?
