Lobi Stars face tough away assignment in Omoku

Akwa United celebrate a goal during their NPFL match. Colin Udoh

League leaders Lobi Stars are away to an unyielding Go Round FC on NPFL matchday 24 in Omoku.

Stars will want to consolidate their five-point advantage before the World Cup break, but face a tough task against a side that are undefeated in their previous 11 home games, with seven wins and four draws.

However, while relegation-threatened Go Round are unbeaten at home, a return of five goals from their last five games isn't actually a record to make Lobi, who have netted four times on the road in same period, lose much sleep.

Can Akwa United become only the fourth side to deny Yobe Desert Stars maximum home points this season?

The second-place Promise Keepers, on 38 points, have the quality to be worthy title-contenders, but need to improve on their away form which has seen them lose all three previous road trips to the far north this campaign.

Third-place Kano Pillars could close the gap on the leaders and finish second on the log if they manage to secure a win against Rivers United at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.

Despite Rivers' four-game unbeaten streak heading into the encounter, Sai Masu Gida have remained dominant at home this term, an 81.8-per cent win rate proof of their reliability in front of their fans.

Enugu Rangers, winless in their last four games, are home to rock-bottom Heartland in the Oriental Derby.

The Flying Antelopes should be fairly confident of earning a much needed win against an Heartland side in poor form, as one clean sheet in 11 previous away games, and a tally of nine points from their last 10 matches, should leave Rangers unruffled.

Enyimba and Katsina United meet in Calabar, as both teams continue their continental push.

Abdulrahman Bashir has been amongst the goals lately for the sixth-placed People's Elephant, and if the towering striker does manage to extend his fine form for Enyimba, they could topple poor travellers Katsina United - two points from as many away games - who are fourth on the log.

Champions Plateau United, who should have Dele Ajiboye back in the fold after his Nigeria World Cup snub, host an in-form Abia Warriors in Jos.

The Warriors are on an impressive five-game unbeaten run - picking up four points from last two away matches - but will see their form tested against a Plateau side that have their sights set on a top-four finish this weekend.

In other fixtures, Kwara United host FC Ifeanyi Ubah in a battle to avoid the drop, MFM FC, buoyed by a first away win of the season last weekend, will push for a second straight victory at home to El-Kanemi Warriors.

Sunshine Stars, 19th on the table, could earn a massive lifeline with a home win against Nasarawa United, while Niger Tornadoes should be confident of a first win in three games at home to Wikki Tourists in Minna.
