Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr assessed the quality of his current squad on Tuesday, ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Cameroon, and conceded that he made mistakes in June's loss to South Africa.

The Super Eagles were beaten 2-0 by Bafana Bafana in that Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo; a surprising defeat given the Nigerians had not lost to the South Africans before.

Now, with qualification for Russia next year reaching the business end, Rohr has made sure to call up an experienced and star-studded squad, including John Mikel Obi and Victor Moses.

"In the last game it was a very young team; like an Under-23 team, and we made mistakes," Rohr told KweséESPN. "Now we have more experience, now we have our captain, we have our best striker, we have also our defender who is coming back. So we believe we have a good team."

Rohr says lessons have been learnt, and the team is motivated to win, especially against the reigning African champions.

"Losing that match [against South Africa] is motivation for us to win. But that game is gone, we have to look at the match that is coming. They are champions of Africa. We know that they are a very, very good team. We have also a good team, so we believe that we can beat them."

The sides will play twice, on Friday and on Tuesday. Only the winner of the group will qualify for Russia.
