Ndidi: Nigeria ignoring Bafana history

Nigeria will go into the opening qualifier for the 2019 African Nations Cup with a flawless record against their opponents, having never lost to the South Africans in a competitive game,

The Eagles' record against Bafana in competitive matches stands at played nine, won six and drawn three, but Ndidi insists there will be no complacency next month.

"That is in the past, so we would try not to be complacent about past records," the Leicester City man told KweséESPN.

"Every match is different and we have to fight hard to make sure that it is not in our time that we lose to them," he continued.

In particular, the 20-year-old is wary of the threat posed by the nippy South Africans, whose pace in advanced areas was evident when they beat Guinea-Bissau 3-1 in late March.

"I expect a serious and fast game, because they have so much pace," Ndidi continued, "they have fast players."

After missing out on the last two Nations Cups -- in 2015 and 2017 -- Ndidi says it is crucial that the Super Eagles return to Africa's flagship tournament, adding: "It is very, very important for us as a nation."
