Rangers bounce back against Kano Pillars in style

Rangers earned a first win in six games after beating a lacklustre Kano Pillars 3-1 in Enugu.

The result did little in improving the league standing of the champions, as they remain five points adrift of safety.

Three first-half goals from Chibuzor Madu, Chiamaka Madu and Ifeanyi George were enough to render Adamu Mohammed's first-half stoppage time goal for Kano Pillars a mere consolation, as the 'Cathedral' finally came alive this season with some eye catching football from the home team.

Ifeanyi George was handed a debut and a place in the starting line-up for Rangers and it took the debutant forward less than a minute to make an appreciable impact, getting fouled in the opposition area, a penalty awarded by the referee.

Chibuzor Madu converted to give the home team a dream start, in a game they desperately needed to impress and win. They heeded the call by adding a second goal in the sixth minute through Chiamaka Madu to set Rangers comfortably in the driving seat.

Rangers were all over Kano Pillars in the opening half but had a minor setback when Chibuzor Madu had to be subbed off in the 38th minute for Okey Odita due to injury. George capped a brilliant first-half performance on his debut by netting the third goal on the stroke of half-time.

Mohammed responded with a goal for Pillars two minutes into first-half added time as the two sides ended an entertaining half which produced four goals.

The second half produced no goals as both sets of players failed to add to the tally. The result continued a recent winless run for Kano Pillars which has seen them go 6-game winless run, picking up a solitary point of a possible 18.
