Carl Ikeme out for Nigeria's match against Algeria due to pelvic injury

Nigeria have been dealt a blow ahead of their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Algeria with the withdrawal of first-choice goalkeeper Carl Ikeme due to injury.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper was withdrawn at half-time of Wolverhampton Wanderers' 1-1 draw against Blackburn Rovers after suffering a pelvic injury.

The goalkeeper was hoping to be fit for the game, but on Wednesday, Wolves formally informed the NFF that Ikeme would be unavailable.

In his place, Nigeria have called up Daniel Akpeyi, who plays for South African PSL club Chippa United.

Akpeyi was in the Nigeria U20 squad that finished as runners-up at the 2005 FIFA U20 World Cup in the Netherlands, and was also in the bronze-winning U23 team at the Men's Olympic Football Tournament in Brazil in August this year as an overaged player.
